Several partial steps of the previous surgical method are combined in this laser intervention and thus make the surgeon’s scalpel superfluous. For the patient, this new procedure offers many advantages, such as greater precision due to more accurate positioning of the artificial lens and greater safety due to high-precision laser cuts.

The Femto laser was introduced in 2008 and represents the latest development in modern lens surgery.
The primary goal of using a Femto-Laser in lens surgery is to standardise certain surgical steps to replace the surgeon’s manual precision with the automated, infallible precision of the laser.
The Femto-Laser thus revolutionises the surgical method, which has remained virtually unchanged for over 40 years, by replacing the scalpel and tweezers, thereby reducing potential human error to a minimum. Patients thus receive an increase in precision, perfection and safety that cannot be achieved by the human hand, especially in the following steps :
- The Femto laser makes it possible to position and size the corneal incisions very precisely.
- The circular opening in front of the lens bag has a constant diameter and is perfectly circular, which gives the intraocular implant better stability.
- The lens core is fragmented into small pieces that are easier to remove.

- 43% less energy required to extract the lens and therefore less stress on the surrounding delicate tissue.
