ICL implantation is a revolutionary and minimal invasive method for correcting visual defects such as short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism. A special contact lens, the so-called ‘Implantable Collamer Lens’ (ICL), is inserted into the eye to change the refractive power and provide vision without glasses or contact lens.
ICL implantation is a safe and effective procedure performed by our experienced surgeons. The minimally invasive surgery typically takes only a few minutes per eye. Most patients experience no pain during the treatment and can resume their normal activities the next day.
After ICL implantation, patients benefit from significantly improved vision and enhanced quality of life. They can engage in sports, drive, and perform daily tasks without the need for glasses or contact lenses.
ICL can also be used for patients with thin or irregularly shaped corneas, dry eyes, or other eye conditions. This procedure is an excellent alternative for patients who are not suitable candidates for other refractive procedures such as LASIK or PRK, or who have such high refractive errors that cannot be fully corrected with other methods.
One major advantage of ICL implantation compared to laser surgical procedures is that the natural shape of the cornea is preserved. This can lead to better visual quality and reduce the risk of dryness, glare, and other side effects that may occur after LASIK or PRK. Additionally, ICL implantation is reversible, meaning the lens can be easily removed or replaced if needed. This provides patients with additional flexibility and safety compared to laser surgeries, which are often irreversible.
Benefits :
Minimally invasive procedure with fast healing
Treatment possible for very high refractive errors
Suitable for patients with dry eyes or thin corneas
Reversible (lens can be easily removed)
Unique Collamer material with UV protection
Each ICL is individually customized and neither felt nor visible
Preoperative process :
The goal of an initial consultation is to determine if ICL implantation is suitable for you. Patients aged 18 and over with high refractive errors, thin corneas, or dry eyes are suitable candidates for this method. During a preoperative examination, the surgeon rules out certain eye conditions and ensures that all necessary anatomical requirements are met. The results are then discussed with you, and if desired, a surgery appointment can be scheduled.
Procedure :
The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis.
The procedure is painless.
Local anesthesia is administered through the use of numbing eye drops.
The lens is painlessly placed behind the iris through a tiny opening.
The procedure takes about 10 to 15 minutes per eye.
Both eyes are operated on the same day.
Resumption of normal activities after 24 hours.
Postoperative :
We recommend wearing sunglasses for protection immediately after the surgery.
Have a companion to pick you up.
Avoid rubbing your eyes.
Follow-up appointments are scheduled for one day, one week, and one month.
Driving and work are generally permitted from the day after surgery.
After one week, you can resume physical exercise and sport, and after two weeks swimming and sauna.
