StreamLight: the latest-generation transepithelial PKR for faster recovery with less discomfort
The Centre Ophtalmologique Place de Paris is proud to be the first and only center in Luxembourg to offer you this cutting-edge technology.
PKR (refractive photokeratectomy) is a laser vision correction technique.
It helps correct near-sightedness and astigmatism.
During PKR, the thin superficial layer of the cornea (the epithelium) is removed. Then the surface of the corneal tissue is sculpted directly with an excimer laser. The epithelium will then regrow by itself within a few days.
In a "classic" PKR, the epithelium is removed mechanically and the excimer laser subsequently applied. The Center Ophtalmologique Place de Paris offers "StreamLight", a new transepithelial PKR technique that uses the excimer laser to remove the epithelium without touching the eye.
It is therefore the same excimer laser that will remove the epithelium and reshape the corneal surface to correct the visual defect in one single optimized WaveLight procedure. The alignment between the size and location of the PTK treatment area with the PRK ablation profile is automatic.
There is thus no contact with the eye being treated.
Compared to classic PKR, postoperative discomfort is decreased and recovery is speedier.
